Enhancing Executive Leader Impact

Client: Executive Leadership Team of Global Solutions Consulting arm of a Leading Software Solutions Giant.

Organizational context: The organization was a relatively new Business arm, set up 4 years ago. Their primary customer is another internal Business arm that in turn interfaces with the end customer. The entire leadership team therefore needs to play a significant role in terms of "selling" the Consulting organization to key stakeholders within the larger organization while ensuring that they also build people and organizational capability to backup the niche positioning of their organization.

Our Mandate: We were tasked with designing and implementing a solution for the 9-Member Executive Team (the CEO and his reporting Directors responsible for Delivery, Business Development, Technology, Finance, HR; all veteran Managers, with vast, variegated professional experiences spanning 15 - 25 years) which would help them augment their role as Organizational Leaders with a strong executive presence.

Our Solution: LiA - Leadership in Action Coaching: LiA is a powerful feedback-cum-coaching tool. Central to LiA is the concept of observing the participant in a live situation and/or simulating a real-life scenario and then providing immediate, real-time feedback. A skilled CoCoon Coach observes the individual in his/her natural work environment and/or simulates key stakeholder interactions with the participant and provides immediate, objective, real-time feedback.

Key Program Elements: The entire program spanned 17 weeks and comprised of the following elements:

MBTI To provide inputs into the key areas of strength and opportunity
Pre and Post Stakeholder Feedback This is an adaptation of our Qualitative 360 Feedback tool, IMPRINT. Feedback was gathered from 3-4 identified stakeholders (Boss, Subordinates, Customers) around key impact areas pertaining to communication and executive presence. The aim was to hold up a mirror to participants to help them understand the impact of their communication styles
Coaching Sessions Each individual ahs 5 one on one sessions with the CoCoon Coach. Through these sessions, the objective was to help participants understand specific areas of strength and brainstorm around areas of opportunity as well as explore alternate ways of achieving impact. These sessions were typically accompanied with shadowing or simulations.
Peer Feedback Sessions The aim of these sessions was to leverage the peer feedback methodology. Participants went through specific, pre-designed simulations to evince specific behaviors and they had the opportunity to receive objective feedback from their peer group.
Articles, Movie clips / AV clips Specific resources by way of articles, workout templates and movie / AV clips of famous speeches were compiled for participants and shared as appropriate, on a case to case / need basis, in order to support a specific developmental area

Feedback / Reactions:
"I have noticed a marked change in the manner my Boss interacts with us... He is much more participative and engaging in his style" - Subordinate of LiA Participant

"I feel empowered... I am now able to put some method to managing x (a key global stakeholder) and this has enabled me to be much more impactful with x" - LiA Participant

"He reaches out to his people much more... he is not afraid to engage with large groups and in fact, in his last Town Hall, I thought he was able to present his data quite convincingly and more importantly, engage with his audience" - Supervisor of LiA participant
