MANAGEMENT TEAM EFFECTIVENESS In times of transition and change
Client:Global Delivery Center of a large multinational telecommunications organization.
Target Audience:Executive Leadership Team.
Business Context:The business had recently undergone a re-organization into a Verticalized structure which resulted in a significant augmentation of responsibilities of the India Leadership Team and also resulted in the induction of 5 more members into the Leadership team, taking the team strength up to 10. The reorganization happened in 2 phases - first with role changes for the current Executive team and a few months later, the induction of the newer members. The change had several implications - role transition, augmentation of responsibilities and in some cases, complete change in responsibilities, working with global stakeholders, changes in reporting to global heads and changes in peer relationships.
Our Brief:We worked with the Team over the entire journey (spanning about 14 months). Our mandate was to design and implement suitable interventions to support the team through these changes.
Our Approach:Our approach was to work with the two sub teams (older and newer Leadership team members) separately, at appropriate points in their role transition, and then bring them together as a team.
In the first phase of this assignment, we focused on the older Leadership team members and rolled out the following two interventions:
IMPRINT - Facilitated Stakeholder Feedback This was done for each of the 5 Senior Executive Leaders and also included an additional section to gather feedback on the Executive Leadership Team as a group. It was followed by One-on-one feedback with each of the ELT members
Facilitated Workshop for the Executive Leadership - 1 Day working session: We facilitated action planning around issues such as - seamless implementation of the re-organization, building internal capability and empowering the second line of leaders and ensuring synergy in the ELT.
In the second Phase, we worked with the 5 new ELT members in a coaching relationship. We designed and ran 'Leadership in Action' coaching which comprised 6 one on one sessions, combined with shadowing and simulation, focusing on role transition, 90 day planning, strategic business planning, stakeholder management and executive presence.
Finally, we brought the entire Leadership team together to craft their Leadership Code and explore areas of synergistic opportunity.
